Bridging the gap with a Medicare Supplement Plan

A Medicare Supplement Plan is offered to anybody who is already an existing Medicare member. This plan helps you in meeting those expenses that are not covered under your existing Medicare plan. In a way, a supplement plan helps you save a lot on expenditure which you would have otherwise incurred. Hence, having a Medicare Supplement plan is a very good option as you will be able to bridge the gap between your coverage on Medicare and the actual expenditure you have incurred.

Cost Factor

There are many health insurance companies that provide Medicare Supplement Plans. Now, these plans are not provided for free and you will have to pay a certain sum of money towards the premium. This premium actually differs from one company to another company and from one policy to another. This means that it is not advisable to rush into a decision immediately. You can take your own time and analyze the various plans on offer and at the same time also consider the budget you have allocated before actually buying a supplement plan. You can now go online and make a comparison of the rates and arrive at a suitable decision.

Types of Supplementary Plans

There are different types of supplementary plans available in the market place. This means that you can choose a suitable Medicare Supplementary Plan which will help you meet additional expenses than provided for by your existing Medicare policy. Most of the supplementary plans are standardized which means that you can buy these plans from any company in your state or country and they will remain the same, despite being sold under different names. There are ten different supplementary plans. All these plans are identified by their alphabets, meaning A, B, C, D, etc.

The Process

As a senior citizen, having a Medicare Supplement plan will ensure that most of your additional expenses are taken care off. When you require this additional medical coverage, all you need to do is to inform your insurance service provider. Finally, it is better to continue this plan for as long as possible as they offer you a simple and hassle free Medicare.

For all others, the standard Medicare Part B monthly premium will be $115.40 in 2011, which is a 4.4% increase over the 2010 premium. The Medicare Part B premium is increasing in 2011 due to possible increases in Part B costs. In 2011:

A) New Part B beneficiaries will pay $115.40 (because they did not have the premium withheld from their Social Security benefit in the previous year).

.

B) Beneficiaries who do not currently have the Part B premium withheld from their Social Security benefit will pay $115.40.

Higher-income beneficiaries pay $115.40 plus an additional amount, based on the income-related monthly adjustment amount (IRMAA).
